1. Do you play your own material?
Yes, most of the music played on Kicks is from our own collection. During the years we played some records that were borrowed from and returned to some local distributors and shops but these are rare. Everything Kicks has collected is archived and might be aired again in the future.
2. Do you trade, sell or copy?
No, we never do anything like that. Since all the releases that we played on Kicks are archived for potential later use we never do part with any recording. Also out of respect of the artists and labels who provide us with their releases we never make illegal copies. Most of the Kicks collection is bought with our own funding.
3. Do you get paid for doing a show on Radio Centraal?
No, Radio Centraal is partly funded with member fees because it has no income from third parties. So it has no commercials or pre-formatted playlists. Every month we both pay a small amount of money to Radio Centraal to keep Kicks on air.
4. What kind of styles of music do you play?
It is difficult to sum up all the styles of music that we play because there is so many things that we like. 5. Are you also partners in real life?
Yes, we have been living together in Antwerp since 1988. And we have a son called ‘Borr’ who was born in 2007, click here to visit his website (in Dutch). Since the birth of our son Peggy has stopped doing announcements on the show and is only involved in the preparation of the show (but that might change again in the future).
6. Do you download mp3’s to air on your show?
Yes, we download mp3’s (and other formats like flac or ogg) from the internet but only on request of the artists themselves (no torrent or p2p). Never send an mp3 attached to your mail as it will be removed immediately. Just mail the URL were to download (you can use sites as 4shared.com or megaupload.com) and as much other info as possible (website, bio…). We also feature bands that release online under CC License from websites like jamendo.com or archive.org. Labels can also use promonetics.com, a site created only for press promotion.
7. What formats do you play?
We play regular cd’s and cdr’s and all sorts of vinyl. Also accepted are md’s, tapes and mp3-cdr’s. We can also play and review music dvd’s and dvd-r or dvd+r. The listeners will of course only hear the soundtrack. If your work is released on a regular cd but you want to save costs, you can make a promo-cdr with a Xerox of the original artwork and send this to us for airplay. All other forms of promo are also welcome. Please include as much information as possible, at least a biography and an e-mail so we can contact you back and send a playlist of the revelant show.
8. Do you get in contact after you aired my material?
Yes, after we’ve played a title of your release we will send you an mail with the playlist. Because of busy lives we try to keep all other correspondence as little as possible. So if you want to know how much we like your music or something else keep in mind that already by the fact that we aired your release means that we like it (we never play anything we really hate) and that we both are very broadminded when it comes to music.
9. Where can I send promo’s to?
See the address above
10. Is there a possibility that you might interview me?
Yes, if you want to be interviewed there is always a possibility to do that, but only after we have received your promotional material and have had the chance to air your material. We accept interviews by phone and VOIP (Skype). If that’s not possible we also do interviews by mail (we send the questions, you record your answers and send them to us and we’ll edit it into an interview). Interviews are digitalized for publication on this website after we’ve aired them.
11. What does the + and * (in the older playlists) before the artists name mean?
The + means that Peggy has announced the track * symbolizes the fact that Bruno did the annunciation.
12. Is there a possibility to listen to Kicks online?
Yes, you can listen to the live stream of Radio Centraal. This is the link http://streaming.radiocentraal.org/
